Make representations to your CCG or MP

Please write to your Member of Parliament!

AF Association is launching ACT on AF Friday as part of the campaign to raise awareness of AF and improve services for existing patients. As part of this campaign, I would be grateful if you could make representations to your local MP, as part of ACT on AF Friday, requesting that they write to your local CCG asking them to implement a series of practical and pragmatic recommendations to improve the quality of care and treatment for patients with Atrial Fibrillation (AF).

The Government has pledged to proceed with an ambitious programme of reform for the NHS, and is committed to shared patient decision making – “no decision about me without me”. We believe that patients are best placed to inform the care they should receive and their patient journey. As an organisation it is our belief that patients should have a greater say in their care and we are therefore calling on the Government to prioritise AF and for the NHS to ensure that there are better diagnosis and treatment options available to patients with AF.

We recently held a patient workshop in Parliament to agree the steps that need to be taken in order to improve services for AF patients. The workshop considered a series of practical, pragmatic recommendations that support the drive towards “no decision about me without me” and to agree minimum standards of care that patients must receive. It is vital that AF is seen as a priority area in order to save the NHS money through preventative measures as well as restoring the quality of life for hundreds of thousands of AF patients.

I would be grateful if you could write to your MP, using the attached template letter as a guide, as soon as possible so that they can make representations to your local CCG. Details of your local MP can be found at the website -

In the meantime if you would like any further information about ACT on AF Friday, then please do not hesitate to contact me at or telephone 01789 867502.

Yours sincerely
