Campaign for AF

ACT on AF Friday 28th October 2011

1) ADD you name to an open letter for the Health Minister

AFA is asking as many supporters as possible to contact the appropriate Health Minister, Lord Howe, to encourage him to set national standards (a Quality Standard) for AF.

A Quality Standard is a set of 10-15 statements which commissioners and clinicians should work towards. They can also be used by patients so they can see what type of high quality care they should be receiving. The National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) recently consulted on its proposed library of Quality Standards that it is looking to develop over the next few years.

The AFA has responded to the NICE consultation but we believe that it is important that you have your say too.

You can have your say to ensure that AF is prioritised in two ways:

TAKE ONE MINUTE -

2) CONTACT your MP and

3) TELL him/her about ACT on AF Friday

We are keen for as many MPs as possible to hear about AFA’s new publication Healthcare Pioneers: showcasing innovative practice in Atrial Fibrillation. The booklet provides examples of where local healthcare professionals are working to provide successful AF care across England and Wales.

By telling MPs about the Healthcare Pioneers booklet they will be aware of how services in their area could be changed. It is hoped that your MP will make representation on your behalf and write to their local commissioners asking them to consider some of the case studies featured in this booklet. Your letter is important as it may be that one of the examples could be applicable for your local population, saving your commissioners money and, ultimately, lives.

Contacting your MP is easy. You can find out who your MP is by typing in your postcode at the following link:
http://www.parliament.uk/mps-lords-and-offices/mps/

This website will then provide contact details for your MP. Once you have found this, you can write to them at: Your MP’s name, House of Commons, London, SW1A 0AA

We have drafted a template letter which you can personalise and send to your MP.
